GoGi House Vung Tau

I was craving for pork belly. The taste, smell and the sizzling noise of Samgyupsal 삼겹살, grilling over a hot plate is hard to resist, plus having just been in Korea not too long ago and tasted one of the scrumptious BBQ meal ever, the episode has been on replay at the back of my mind. Hence, despite being in Vietnam, I was determine to locate a Korean BBQ joint. Having seen the increasing presence of Koreans in Vietnam, I'm pretty sure a touristy city like Vung Tau, there will surely be a Korean BBQ joint laying around somewhere like many other ASEAN cities.

With the help of internet, it was a cakewalk. Several options pop up immediately.

A quick glance at the review and the photos, I had decided to go for GoGi House, it has 4.3 out of 5 star review on google.

The place looks clean and bright with traditional Korean styling but nothing over bearing. It uses a tablet ordering system, so is easy for foreigners as you can switch the menu to English. The price is fair with the portion it serves, something I would expect and probably pay slightly more if I'm in Malaysia.

There are less variety of side dish but it doesn't bother me at all as I was on a mission, obviously there for the meat. In total 5 side dish were served, Kimchi, onion peel, seaweed, egg and tofu skin mix, and a salad which I barely touch. The Kimchi taste much milder, it did not pack the punch that I was hoping for, but still works. The sauce is a bit too sweet to my liking and I prefer just plain salt, pepper and tiny squeeze of lemon.

The space is wide with mural paintings and the iconic traditional roof tiles. The suction fans are working well hence no need to worry about smelling like you just came out of a smoke house. The floor is cleaned and you don't feel sticky while walking on it.

The service is great, and I have no complains. The waiter and waitresses were attentive to my needs, and always check on me if I need anything else, they were quick in helping me to change the grill plate when it turns black.

Here comes the pork belly, meat is fresh, it was served with some sprinkle of spring onion and two thinly cut king oyster mushroom.

I couldn't resist the beef too.

Hear that sound of happiness in the making.

The meal was great, I rate it 4/5. Kim Chi could be better, the meat options are not as comprehensive that I was used to. But the mains are there to solve your cravings. I would definitely be back again.
